ARTIST STATEMENT
I tell my story and look for a spiritual compass. Poetry, performance, video, altered books and films, graphic art and illustration of my copious journals are some of my media.
I frequent rummage sales, flea markets, Aunt Betty’s Drawers, church basements, bagging discarded stuff that “speaks” to me. What does an object say?
All things should be respected and loved; including the broken, the rejected, the thrown-out. There is a comforting pattern, an entertaining one, to be found in arranging anew, things imperfect, things temporal, things with missing parts.
To be resourceful is the drive that keeps the glue together. I hold an art class with other women artists, twice a month for women in jail--women who have limited materials. To the incarcerated woman, a piece of candy package foil, or an acorn from the prison court yard, can be as precious as silver or gold.
Her poem "Running with Scissors" recorded on her CD, "LAST WILL & PEPPERMINT", expresses her empathy for those imprisoned.

Altered Book
A Book of Women’s Ailments and Suggested Cures. A 95 page altered book that includes over 50 original magazine ads for drugstore remedies for women’s minor ailments. This is to comic effect, and makes at essence, a feminist statement.
The cover contains an actual tube of Mother Teresa’s breath mist, which is a cure for the scourge of halitosis.
