JOURNAL ART
Personal Statement:
I have been writing poetry on and off for forty years. For most of my life I've thought of my artistic work in verbal terms and often experienced "blocks", periods of time when I was unable psychologically to write. Then, in the last five years I found myself keeping journals that are a combination of words and visual drawings and collages.
I make a practice of writing on the left hand pages, and drawing and collaging on the right hand pages. This practice I believe has had a liberating effect and has allowed my brain to work in new sets of patterns. This has led me to start to work with music and film. My video MAN & WOMAN incorporates some of my journal illustrations. The poems I am writing are being set to music.
